Broome High School Athletics

A Message from the Broome High School Athletic Director

I would like to personally welcome everyone back to Broome High School for the 2017-18 school year.  I am extremely excited to be your Athletic Director. I feel like we have some of the hardest working coaches and some of the hardest working and highest character student athletes you can find. That has been evident this summer with all the things happening in Broome Athletics.

We had highly successful baseball, softball, and basketball camps, where our coaches and athletes helped develop the skills of future Centurions. The cheerleaders had a great week-long camp working with the MSP and CMS cheer squads. The weight room has been going at a fast pace with large numbers from many sports and both genders. The football team was involved in a Reading Literacy program at Clifdale Elementary, helping the youngsters read. Broome Athletics had a very visible presence in The Mighty Moo parade. Former Centurion DJ Moore once again hosted his football camp. Several of the Broome coaches participated in a golf tournament that raised monies to go to scholarships for Broome Student/Athletes. Broome was also able to showcase our stadium as the State AAU track meet was held there over two days.

All of the coaches have been working this summer to prepare their teams for this fall. They have worked hard to ensure a successful season. Broome is very pleased with the naming of several new coaches. Lynn Fleming, a Broome graduate takes over the football program. He has three new assistants in defensive coordinator Tony Sullivan, offensive line coach Jeremy Smith, and Defensive back coach Joshua Lang. Ben Waddle takes over the baseball team this spring. Broome’s own Sally Sprouse is taking over the reins in girls’ basketball. And Jana Calvert is moving into the girls’ tennis position. All of these folks have been working diligently to make sure our student athletes are prepared to be successful on the field and in the classroom. Our teams have already been tuning up by scrimmaging, participating in jamborees, and playing in pre-season tournaments.

Each coach will be preparing a preview for the upcoming season on their athletic page of the District Three website. You will see the commitment our coaches put into preparing their teams. One thing that stands out is the schedules that we have put together for our teams.  Our coaches want to test their teams early, and this is evidenced by the competition we are playing.  To get a team to the next level, a coach has to constantly challenge the team.  One of the best ways to accomplish this is to play a tough, non-region schedule.

Also, big for this year, EVERY athletic team at Broome High School will be involved in at least one service project. Broome athletics is “ALL IN” for the community.
We are looking forward to another wonderful sports year at Broome.  We thank you for all of your support for our teams and coaches.
